Hey all, I'm Jim and I'm new here. I'm 16 and I'm from Vanderbilt, Pennsylvania which is about 60 miles south of Pittsburgh. I currently work construction and I am looking into driving truck as my future career. I enjoy building model trucks. I'm not very good being that I just started. I only have one build, it is a Revell Peterbilt 359. I'll be honest with you, I MASSACRED the paint job. My current work is a Mack DM600. I'm always open for suggestions. Just thought I'd introduce myself.

Hi Jim and welcome to the family! feel free to ask for any advice you like,we will all help you as much as we can. it is good to have a "youngun" on the forum how did you paint your pete? did you use model enamels(with a brush) or spray cans? if you are using enamels i always use a primer(spray can or enamels)and do light coats, don't try to cover the whole thing in one go. also i use the widest brush i can, normally a 6mm wide flat ended one. hope this helps and good luck with the mack

Welcome Jim! We are glad to have you here and don't worry, your welcome here, regardless of your age. Keep in mind, it's young-uns like you that are the future of the hobby! I can remember the first big rig kit I built and trust me when I tell you, I butchered it as well. It was the old AMT Kenworth Watkins W925 kit and I brush painted it and made a general mess out of that poor thing. But, at the time I loved it and I was proud of the results for a first timer. As you gain experience your builds will come together cleaner and nicer with each kit you tackle. Just be patient and don't hesitate to ask questions and look for better ways to do something. That's what's so great about this hobby! Again, welcome to the family! it's great to have you here!!!

First off welcome to the group. Don't worry about the bad paint job. All of here have had bad paint jobs over the course of our building carreers. I know I'd be lying if I said I didn't. That's what Castrol Super Clean and Easy Off oven cleaner are for. Enjoy your time in our forum and please post some progress pictures of your DM 600 build in the shop section.

Hi Jim, I am new here also and I need some serious lessons in paint myself. I believe practice makes perfect so start with the cheap kits and keep on trying. The tips you get here will not steer you wrong. And my dad was born and raised in Uniontown Pa. so I know where you are and how beautiful that part of the country is. I come out there to visit family often. Greetings. Jack

Uniontown?! I can't believe that. I live about 500 yards from the Uniontown School District line.

Hey, believe it. I have spent a lot of time in Hopwood, Ohio pyle. In Lemont Furnace my family has a road named after us. Yauger Hollow Road just off Connellsville Road. My Grandma worked at Hickles bar-b-q on 119 towards Smithfield. My Aunt LauraJane lives at the base of Jumonville Rd. that goes up to the Quarry. I love your part of the country. We have spent alot of time up at the Summit. And the big Cross at the church camp that you can see for miles up on the mountain. Yeah there is alot of us still up in the hills out there.
